What is Trade Connection
The Trade Connection program is a unique, trades-focussed and essential skills program designed to support job seekers interested in a career in the trades.
How is the Program Designed?
Trade Connection is a 16-week program for youth (ages 18 – 30). The first 4 weeks of the program are spent in a classroom setting, exploring the trades and career paths, completing certifications, and preparing for work.
The next 12 weeks feature a fully paid work placement with a local employer to gain hands on experience.
Eligibility
- 18 – 30 years of age
- Not currently working or in school
- Participants must be able to commit to the FULL 16-week program.
Included in the Program:
- Individual career assessments and insights into the labour market
- Full exploration of career options in the trades – construction, industrial, motive power and service trades
- Resume and cover letter building
- Interview skills
- An interactive virtual reality experience
- Essential skills development
- Certification training (eg. First Aid, WHMIS, etc.)
- Opportunities to learn directly from local employers and industry experts

What is Pick Your Path?
This program combines 5 days of interactive workshops and individual sessions to help participants engage in career exploration, planning, and decision making. Workshops use tools, assessments, and professional guidance to help youth connect themselves to the local labour market and plan for their future.
Eligibility:
- 18 – 30 years of age

- Introduction to the career exploration, planning, and decision making process
- Introduction to Labour Market Information and how to use it
- Exploration of interests through the Strong Interest Inventory
- Using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator for career decision making
- Completing Career Values Assessment
- Optional additional assessments for specific occupational areas of interest
- Interactive Virtual Reality experience to try different occupations
- Comprehensive debrief on assessment results, labour market information, career decision making, and effective goal setting

The Reimagine Yourself workshop series is designed to support job seekers as they explore work and career opportunities. It is structured as a series of assessment-based workshops and individualized counselling sessions, focused on helping participants discover their interests, personalities, values, and local labour market trends.
The program is facilitated by qualified Employment Counsellors who provide both group workshops and one-on-one guidance. This structure is intended to help individuals gain self-awareness, align their career choices with their intrinsic motivations, and make informed decisions based on up-to-date labour market information.

What’s Included?
Strong Interest Inventory: his assessment measures your interests across a wide range of jobs, work tasks, leisure activities, and school subjects. It then compares your interests to those of people who are successful in various careers. The Strong Interest Inventory helps you understand your own work preferences and highlights the types of jobs where you are likely to feel most satisfied.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator: After more than 70 years of research and development, the current tool is the most widely used instrument for understanding individual personality differences.
Work Values: You will receive a report outlining what you value in the world of work. A qualified career and employment counsellor will help you discover what you find satisfying and self-motivating on the job.
Labour Market Information: Working with an employment counsellor, you will be given the tools to research employment opportunities. jobs in demand, wages, and educational requirements for various occupations.
What is Better Jobs Ontario?
Better Jobs Ontario provides eligible applicants with skills training for in-demand jobs and financial support.
What Training Can I Take?
The program aims to help applicants rejoin the workforce quickly. Better Jobs Ontario offers funding for both:
- Short-term training programs that take 52 weeks or less to complete, including micro-credential programs
- Longer duration programs that take 2 years or less to complete
You Can Apply If
You can still apply for Better Jobs Ontario if you are receiving any of the following forms of income assistance:
- Employment Insurance (EI)
- Ontario Works (OW)
- Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
How Do I Apply?
To apply for Better Jobs Ontario, you’ll work with an Employment Counsellor at EPC. Our staff are trained to help you decide if this program is right for you and to help you complete your application.
What Does the Funding Cover?
This funding may cover the following costs:
- Tuition
- Books
- Other instructional costs, including student fees, supplies, and electronic devices
- Transportation
- Basic living allowance
Who Qualifies?
You may qualify for Better Jobs Ontario if you have either:
- Been laid off and have not been working
- Been laid off and are working a temporary job just to cover costs
- Not been laid off, but have been unemployed for 12 weeks or longer and are part of a low-income household
